Effective Interviewer Skills

A practical workshop to build confidence and competence for everyone involved in the interview process

Duration: 1 Day (9.30am – 4.30pm)

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN
• Refresh core interviewing skills to build confidence and put candidates at ease
• Practise competency-based questioning techniques to probe beyond first answers
• Understand unconscious bias and how to minimise its impact
• Apply employment equality and diversity legislation in an interview context
• Plan and structure panel interviews effectively, including assigning responsibilities and note-taking
• Use non-verbal communication and active listening skills
• Score and evaluate candidates fairly and consistently

WHO SHOULD ATTEND
This workshop is suitable for anyone involved in the interview process — people managers, HR professionals, team leads, and panel members at all levels and across all sectors. No prior interviewing experience is required.

HOW IT WORKS
This is a highly interactive, discussion-based workshop. Participants spend significant time in breakout groups and role-play exercises, drawing on their own experiences of being both an interviewer and a candidate. The session builds progressively toward a final role-play in which all key skills are brought together, with structured peer feedback using an Observer Form.
Content is tailored to each organisation’s specific processes and can incorporate your own job descriptions, question banks, and scoring frameworks.

LEARNING OUTCOMES
• Greater confidence and competence when serving on interview panels
• Ability to probe effectively using competency-based techniques
• Awareness of bias and how to conduct fair, consistent interviews
• Practical skills in structuring, scoring and reviewing the interview process

It is 1-Day Programme and spaces are limited.
