Yellow Belt Introduction

A Lean Yellow Belt equips individuals with foundational skills to identify waste, improve processes, and support improvement projects via structured problem-solving. It boosts efficiency, enhances teamwork, and promotes a culture of continuous improvement in organisations.

As part of the course, learners complete an in-company project, employing the Lean methods taught on the course to fix a problem that directly affects them.

Delivery Methodology

Delivered online over two full day sessions and supported with mentoring to deliver an in-company project.

Course Content

Part 1 – Lean Thinking Foundations

Focus: Building core Lean understanding and identifying waste.

Content includes:
• Lean Thinking and Principles
• The 8 Wastes
• Value vs Non-Value Add
• Waste Walk methodology

Participants develop a shared Lean vocabulary and the ability to identify improvement opportunities within their own environments through structured waste identification exercises.

Part 2 – Define and Measure

Focus: Structured problem definition and data-driven measurement.

Content includes:
• DMAIC overview
• A3 methodology
• Problem definition and scoping
• Process Mapping
• Check Sheets
• Run Charts and introductory Control Charts

Participants learn to define problems clearly, map processes accurately and collect relevant data to establish baseline performance.

Part 3 – Analyse, Improve and Control

Focus: Root cause analysis and sustainable countermeasures.

Content includes:
• Root Cause Analysis
• Cause and Effect Diagrams
• Cause Screening
• 5 Whys
• Process Map Analysis
• Countermeasure development
• Control planning

Part 4 – Embedding Lean in Daily Practice

Focus: Sustainment and visual performance management.

Content includes:
• Visual Management principles
• 6S and workplace organisation
• PIT (Performance Improvement Target) meetings
• Linking improvement activity to daily management systems

The programme is designed to develop consistent, disciplined and sustainable Lean capability across participating organisations.

Mentoring:

LBS Partners Yellow Belt is most effective for organisations and participants when the improvement projects are mentored by one of our lean experts. Mentoring ensures that the learning from the training are embedded effectively and that the organisation gets the most out of the projects being completed. Specialised mentoring totalling four hours per participant, delivered online is provided for the duration of each project. The mentoring enhances the learning from the training by applying the thinking and tools to their in-company projects. The mentor will offer support and guidance on the project. Mentoring is provided in 4 x 1-hour sessions with each participant however, the mentor will be available for questions over email or short check ins outside of these sessions should the participants require additional support.

Accreditation

LBS Yellow Belt Training is accredited by the University of Limerick. Upon successful completion of the training (100% attendance is required) and submission of the in company project , learners will be accredited with a level 7 (undergraduate) certificate

Training Cancellation Policy: Training courses which are cancelled over 7 days in advance of scheduled training date shall incur no cancellation fee. Training courses which are cancelled within 7 days of scheduled training date shall incur a cancellation fee equal to 50% of the cost. Registrants who give less than 24 hours notice or fail to attend training will be charged 100% of the full fee.
