DESCRIPTION:Workshop Aims\n\nPerformance Appraisals provide an opportunity 
 to review and discuss performance against last year’s objectives\, agree
  the objectives for the coming year\; review competencies required and cre
 ate a development plan for the coming year.  It is about discussing\, ack
 nowledging and showing recognition for performance and achievements along 
 with discussing areas of improvement and development.   When appraisals 
 are managed and conducted well they become motivating for the staff member
 .  This programme is designed to give the participants the necessary know
 ledge\, skills and attitudes required to effectively prepare and conduct s
 taff appraisals.\n\n\nWorkshop Objectives\nBy the end of the programme you
  will\n\n 	\nRecognise the benefits of preparing for and conducting motiva
 ting appraisals to guide progress\, increase productivity and employee sat
 isfaction\n\n 	\nBe able to discuss key success factors and how to achieve
  them\n\n 	\nKnow how to prepare for appraisal meetings effectively and ma
 nage the conversation\n\n 	\nHave practiced the necessary skills for condu
 cting effective appraisals and developed your action plan\n\n\nWorkshop Fo
 rmat\nThe programme will be highly participative and include discussions\,
  exercises and practice to address the objectives.  The participants will
  be encouraged to interact and discuss the relevant areas to ensure that k
 nowledge and skills are developed. \nWorkshop Content\n\n 	\nIntroduction
  and course objectives: Explore participants’ experiences of performance
  appraisals covering the benefits of the appraisal meeting.   Discussion
 s will lead into identifying the ideal outcomes\, tangible and intangible\
 , along with concerns and difficulties the participants might experience i
 n achieving these outcomes.   \n\n 	\nPreparation for the meeting:  Thi
 s section will include\n\n 	\nThe importance of preparation for both the a
 ppraiser and appraisee\; how to prepare effectively using the appraisal fo
 rms\; how to structure the meeting\; how to give feedback constructively\n
 \n 	\nHow to avoid common appraisal errors through effective preparation\n
 \n 	\nHow to open the meeting to encourage open discussions\; manage diffe
 rent behaviours\; how to close the meeting\n\n 	\nManaging other concerns 
 that the participants raised at the start of the course\n\n\n\n 	\nDuring 
 the meetings: This section will discuss the importance of recognising acco
 mplishments\; listening to understand\, asking questions and awareness of 
 body language\; creating a supportive versus a defensive environment\; usi
 ng competency framework and inquiring questions to invite self-appraisal\
 ; focusing on performance and not personality\; developing personal develo
 pment plan.\n\n 	\nSkill development: As many people are very apprehensive
  about conducting performance appraisals short mock-appraisals will be con
 ducted with the participants using your appraisal documents.  The mock-ap
 praisals will be debriefed and following this the participants will discus
 s their learning’s and how they will develop the skills required to ensu
