This standard is designed to meet First Aid and Basic Life Support (BLS) requirements that a person known as a “First Ai d Responder” may encounter.\n\nThe First Aid Responder will possess the following general skills:\n\n Deal with life threatening or potentially l ife threatening conditions in the pre-hospital environment until the arrri val of emergency medical services.\n Provide First Aid Response for condi tions not thought to be life-threatening but which are necessary to preven t further harm before the emergency medical services arrive.\n Provide pr e-hospital First Aid Response in a wide range of environments including wo rk\, home and recreational settings.\n Display the requisite personal ski lls including composure\, competence and self confidence while understand ing their limitations.\n\nCourse Duration:\n\n3 Days. November 13th\, 16th and 23rd \n\n \;\n\nCourse Content:\n \;\n\nPatient Assessment\n \nIncident procedures\n\nCardiac First Response (CFR Community) including defibrillation\, choking and stroke\n\nCommon Medical Emergencies (Asthma\ , Diabetes\, Seizures\, Poisoning and Fainting)\n\nInjury Management and S hock (Bleeding\, Bone Injuries\, Sprains\, Strains &\; Dislocations\, S hock)\n\nBurns and scalds\, electric injury care\n\nHypothermia and Hypert hermia\n\nInformation Management\n\nCommunications\n\nThe well-being of th e First Aid Responder.\n\n\n \;\n\nAssessment:\n\nThere is a practical and theory assessment which takes place at the end of Day 3.\n\nCourse pa rticipants must complete a multiple choice examination paper and a mark of  80% or greater must be achieved to successfully complete the course. The re will also be a FAR skills test and a CFR skills test.\n\nCertification: \nCertification is under the auspices of PHECC.
