The DAFM certified course is open to far mers operating this own business\, their employees and any person that wan ts to upskill or become an AI technician as part of their career. The cour se is a combination of both theoretical and practical based learning. On D ay 1 of the course the participant is introduced to basic bovine reproduct ive anatomy and the theory around AI. They also get to examine and practic e AI on bovine reproductive specimens from previously slaughtered animals. Day 2\, 3 and part of Day 4 is practical learning where participants are on farm. During this time the participants practice and perform dummy AI o n live animals and upon completion are deemed competent in the skill of bo vine AI. The Dovea Genetics centre Veterinarian along with 2 fully qualifi ed training instructors guide the participants through all the stages of A I and are on hand to give advice\, guidance and any help that is required. Instructors and the centre vet will prioritise human and animal safety at all times during the course. On the final day of training\, participants are also given a more in depth explanation on bovine reproduction\, synchr onisation\, managing fertility issues\, washout methods and dealing with p roblem cows. Trainees will also be given an overview of business operation s at Dovea Genetics\, the services we offer and the dairy and beef sires t hat are available from our stud. Once the course is completed\, Dovea Gene tics issue a certificate of competency and forward participant details to the DAFM who them issue the applicant with a DIY AI licence.\n\nAccrediati on\n\nUpon completion\, Dovea Genetics Ltd will forward both a certificate of completion and the participants completed DIY AI licence application f orm to the DAFM. Once both are received and approved the DAFM will issue t he DIY AI licence to the participant. The DIY AI licence will allow the pa rticipant to perform AI on their farm or the farm they are employed on and up to 2 other nominated herds also. A DIY AI licence is required by law i n order to purchase and handle frozen bovine semen.\n\nWho should attend?\ n\nThe DIY AI course is a useful skill for anyone who is interested in ups killing and being able to perform AI in cattle. AI gives you access to eli te high index sires which will accelerate genetic improvement on farm whic h will have positive economic\, environmental and socio ecological effects .\nMore specifically\, dairy and beef farmers (and their employees) who ar e already in receipt of a technician service or those with breeding female s that they want to AI their own are very good candidates to complete the course.
